Balamb Garden managed to escape Edea's attack by leaving its homeland of the Republic of Balamb in style to surf the quiet seas. Heading southwards, the huge structure eventually reaches the small fishing community, Fisherman's Horizon - right in the middle of the ocean.

** FMV **
A man is doing a spot of fishing, sitting on a wooden pier in the tranquil town of Fisherman's Horizon. Suddenly, the sea becomes rough, knocking over the flimsy wooden supports. The source of the turbulence is, of course, Balamb Garden docking after its journey from the Republic of Balamb... the man leaves his fishing rod and runs to safety.

Squall will be at the controls of the now hovercraft-like Balamb Garden with his principle, Cid. Exit from the controls area and you will be rejoined by your party members. Use the elevator to go the 2nd floor, where you need to walk to that door with the red light (past Squall's classroom).

You will notice that Balamb Garden seems to have either crashed accidentally into the port, or Cid likes things to be closely run! After a short sequence with a villager, head right (talking to everyone as you go) and as you reach the corner of the stairs you will see a slick FMV of the village. screenshot Exit from this area and head to the extreme right corner to talk to the guy near the elevator, picking the 1st Option to enter Fisherman's Horizon.

Make your way down and you will come across a windmill in the center of a huge bowl that looks to be plated with blue solar panels. At this point, if you go right there is a Save Point and a Magic Stone so use them before you head down to the windmill.

Once inside the windmill, go up to the second floor and you will have a sequence with the city mayor and his wife (to the extreme right corner, you will find a hidden Magic Stone). Now exit the windmill and you will have another sequence with your party. Exit again and head back up the track to leave the bowl.

Walk right and you will come across some dismantled railway track. In the middle of the compound, you will find a man being threatened by a Galbadian Captian, so go up to him and choose to attack. After the battle, the ground will start shaking and you will have to fight a similar BOSS to the one at the Missile Base:

BGH251F2
LV 26 HP 7,600 Mug Adamantine AP 20
Draw Win
Shell, Protect, Stop 8x Missile
Weaknesses & Immunities Attacks
Weak: Earth, Water, Thunder; No effect: Poison (gunshot)
His attacks are strong, but he is weak against Guardian Force attacks (especially Quetzalcoatl, but also Leviathan and Brothers). Use your Thunder* magic and heal your party when you need to (remember not to use Poison!).

After defeating the BOSS, you will meet Selphie and her party members. After a brief conversation, everyone will leave Squall alone with Rinoa. Talk to her, picking any option that you feel best.

Now do a little exploring; make your way to the derelict train station and you will find a Draw Point. In the house to the left of this area, there is a hidden Timber Magazine (notice the Moomba!). On the main street that you first walk along to enter the village you will see a wooden plank to the right: make your way down that you'll find a Blacksmith's shop - time to see if you've collected enough junk to do some Weapon Upgrading!

screenshot Whether you were successful or not in upgrading, make your way to the boat that is in port for a rather amusing scene! Simply talk to the man on the boat...

When you have finished exploring, head back to the Garden (you will meet Irvine along your way). Once in the Garden, go to the Quad area where Selphie will have a chat with Irvine. Now Squall will be able to talk to Cid at the control room. After a brief run-by on all the characters, Squall will be back his room for some spleep...

Cheering Up Squall

screenshot Under the moonlit night, all of Squall's collegues will be organising a little entertainment for Squall outside the windmill; they've all realised that he's been a bit down-in-the-dumps lately.

You will be given a choice of eight instruments to assign to each character (Zell, Irvine, Selphie and Quistis) with your choice affecting the music to be played:

Instruments
1. Guitar
2. Sexaphone
3. Electric Guitar
4. Piano
5. Violin
6. Flute
7. Electric Bass
8. Tap
Songs
B A L L E T : Requires Saxaphone, Electric Guitar, Piano and Electric Bass (This song is similar to Rinoa's theme).
F O L K : Guitar, Violin, Flute and Tap (better conversation..).

(If you choose to play the folk tune, Squall and Rinoa will have a more in-depth conversation, so it's entirely up to you...)

screenshot When you have set up the instruments, Squall will awake, so exit and you will have a sequence between Irvine, Rinoa (in her ball outfit) and Quistis. Rinoa and Squall will then be left alone.... You will find yourself at the area in front of the windmill: talk to Irvine twice and then head down the ladder for the concert!

screenshot Press 'Square' and head left to examine the 'laptop' and have a sequence between Squall and Rinoa. Squall will be pushed down in the process and you will another sequence which causes this pair of lovers to quarrel again... looks like the concert wasn't such a success...

Squall will end up back on his bed, dreaming of the boy on the porch under the huge downpour. Now exit and head for the elevator and to the 3rd floor where you will find Quistis, Sue and Needa. After a little chat, talk to the man and you will be asked to re-organise your party. You will be back onto the World Map in control of the Garden, ready to continue your journey.

NOTE: Selphie will be out on her vacation (^_^), so you will not be able to have her in your party for a while.

Controls for Balamb Garden
Square: Moves forward on land/sea
X: Moves backward on land/sea
Circle: Board/Unboard on land/shore only
Triangle: Switch to inside Garden - you will be able to walk around in Garden. Talk to the driver and you will be asked to re-organise your party ready to be back on the World Map.
R1: Changes camera view.
Select: World Map (changes from a spot view, small map, full map).
Note: The Balamb Garden has very low mobility, it can't cross high land and can only move on shores.
